Often, to keep the family together, the woman will accept repeated beatings and rapes, emotional battering and verbal degredation; she will be debased and ashamed but she will stick it out, or when she runs he will kill her. Ask the politicians who exude delight when they advocate for the so-called traditional family how many women are beaten and children raped when there is no man in the family. Zero is such a perfect and encouraging number, but who, among politicians in male-supremacist cultures, can count that high? . Andrea Dworkin
About This Quote

The above quote by (Danny) Masterson, was taken from the transcript of the hearing that took place on August 10, 2014, in front of the Utah House Judiciary Committee. Masterson is a former police officer and a former bishop in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was also a member of the board of directors for Sunstone Academy, a Mormon Institute on Sexuality. In this hearing, he was being questioned on his role as a leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as well as his involvement with Sunstone Academy.

In his testimony, he spoke about how he had been taught to protect his family from those who would try to do harm to them. He expressed those teachings as being those from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and said that they will teach their members that it is a family's job to protect one another from these types of things. However, he also acknowledged that that does not always mean that there will not be times where it is necessary to be absent from your family for these reasons - if you are called upon to serve a mission or go on a mission, if you are called upon to go on a mission or serve an important call in the church or if you are not called upon to serve an important call due to circumstances out of your control. In this testimony he further added: “I have been told by various leaders over time that I should be responsible and take care of my family, and I do believe I am responsible and take care of my family."
